Experts in Endodontic / Root Canal Treatment
Endodontics is the area of dentistry also known as root canal treatment. Put simply, it is a procedure used to retain a tooth which would otherwise require extraction. Root canal treatment is necessary when bacteria reaches the pulp (nerve) of the tooth either through decay, gum disease, cracks or trauma.
If your tooth is not treated, a bacterial infection will build up inside the root canals and an abcess develop at the tip of the roots. This will cause pain, swelling and can result in the destruction of bone around the tooth.
The procedure
The only other option is extraction of the tooth which can lead to loss of chewing function, cosmetic issues and drifting of neighbouring teeth.
Dr Edwards has many years of experience in root canal treatment and is highly trained having a masters degree in the subject enabling him to provide the best possible care in a relaxed environment. He uses the latest state-of -the-art equipment including a microscope and has the time required to get the best possible result.
Ben's a fantastic dentist, highly recommended.

Myth Busters - Our frequently asked questions
- Is root canal treatment painful?
- The reality is that with modern anaesthetics and equipment, most treatments are completely pain-free
- Is Root canal treatment expensive?
- Even referral private root canal treatment is significantly more cost effective than loss of the tooth and replacement with an implant
- Is Root canal treatment bad for your health?
- The opposite is true; leaving un-treated infected teeth puts a strain on the immune system, therefore root canal can actually improve overall heath. There is no evidence that root treatment has any detrimental effect on health whatsoever.
- Is extraction is a better option than root canal treatment?
- In most cases, provided the infected or decayed tooth can be root filled and restored, root canal treatment is preferable to extraction. Preserving the natural dentition is central to contemporary dental care. Extraction will cause potential cosmetic or function issues unless replaced by a more costly and invasive option such as a dental implant.
